The Earned Income Credit and The Child Tax Credit

When a parent is incarcerated, a relative often cares for the child, usually without having the financial resources to take on the additional responsibility.  Tax credits are available for family members who become the primary caregiver for children whose parent(s) have become incarcerated.  The EIC and CTC federal tax credits assist the primary caregiver be reducing or eliminating taxes owed.  Click here for additional information and tax filing

The Guide to Mutual Aid Resources

Faces & Voices of Recovery has launched the Guide to Mutual Aid Resources, an online, one-stop resource for people looking for help with addiction and recovery. Visitors can find out about the many varieties of online and in-person mutual aid groups that are helping people find and sustain their recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.


 

Preventing and Responding to Corrections-Bases Sexual Abuse:

A Guide for Community Correction Professionals

The American Probation and Parole Association, in conjunction with ICCA and the Pretrial Justice Institute, developed a guide to for community corrections professionals.  The guide provides background information on the problem of corrections based sexual abuse, the impact of victimization on offender behavior, and practical steps that front-line officers and supervisors can take to better prevent and respond to incidents of sexual violence.

The Council of State Governments and the International Community Corrections Association conducted a webinar on grantwriting.  The webinar provided detailed instruction in preparing funding proposals as well as provide guidance to help organizations think through their project design and get their program organized.

The International Community Corrections Association, the Ohio Community Corrections Association and Talbert House presented a workshop at the American Correctional Association's winter meeting.  The workshop outlined proposed PREA standards for community corrections.

Studies and Reports

A Study of Substance-Free Transitional Housing and Community Corrections in Washington County, Oregon

"The current study investigates self-sufficiency, community adjustment, substance use, and criminal recidivism outcomes for substance abusing offenders served through WCCC to document the value added of providing substance free transitional housing services. The study addresses the value-added of Oxford House and other transitional housing services to the combination of services offenders receive, and documents the relative costs and benefits of substance free transitional housing services.”  

Ohio Halfway House: Annual Report Fiscal Year 2003  - The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections released their financial report on 1, 611 contracted halfway house beds for 2003.  The report highlights recidivism reduction, program completion, services requested, supervision methods and outcomes. 

Community Corrections Facilities Outcomes – The Texas Department of Criminal Justice released the Community Corrections Outcome Study in 1999 to determine the effectiveness of community corrections facilities in changing criminal behavior of offenders by tracking: the “successful completion of the program, rearrests, revocations, and [the] successful completion of community supervision."

Texas Residential Programs: Community Corrections Facilities  - An in-depth report presented to the House Corrections Interim Committee on the utility and functionality of community-based services, which include a perspective survey from criminal justice and legal professionals.  The report details: offender needs, a continuum of sanctions, provides a CCF resident profile, addresses CCF operating cost, recidivism rates, and revocation. 

Community Corrections in Colorado: A Study of Program Outcomes and Recidivism, FY00-FY04 – The Colorado Department of Public Safety reported on community correction outcomes of 30 halfway houses, as well as, providing recommendations on its findings.
